Defensive swimming with bag
Swimming with a bag is a technique often overlooked. Our bag can aid our swimming considerably, or in some cases create a significant hazard.
In this module, we will learn about different styles of bags and how they can offer alternative support. We will also look at the techniques for swimming with a bag in calm water, and swift water.

Since not all types of bags behave the same in the water, we must first consider what type of bag we are swimming with.

Rope Bags Rope bags are often a simple design, with shoulder straps, they generally don’t have a waist belt. The rope bag may have some additional grab handles on the side or the bottom. These bags are designed to carry a rope and are commonly used just for this purpose. They are often between 15 and 25L in capacity with good drainage.
